Solar Powers Illinois released the following statement regarding new energy prices taking effect in Illinois on June 1, 2026:

Beginning June 1, Illinois residents will again see higher energy bills as the national electricity affordability crisis continues. Fortunately, June 1 also marks the day Illinois’ nation-leading Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act (CRGA) begins to go into effect, positioning Illinois as a leader to tackle the nationwide supply and demand crisis driving energy prices up in Illinois.
CRGA is estimated to save Illinois residents and businesses $13 billion on their utility bills in the next 20 years – up to $20 per month for residential customers – by investing in American-made, local energy.
Prices have increased in recent years because Illinois, like much of the rest of the nation, has not built enough energy to meet record-high demand, driven primarily by data centers and the electrification of everyday life. CRGA will improve energy efficiency, take better advantage of the energy we already have, and build clean energy storage – the quickest and lowest-cost energy source to deploy.
CRGA solidified Illinois’ historic leadership in energy and climate policy, proving that clean energy is not a barrier to affordability, but a path. The electricity price crisis is real and urgent, thanks to Governor Pritzker’s and the Illinois General Assembly’s leadership, the state has set a solution into motion.
